Aromatherapy Services

Aromatherapy is the art and science of using essential oils to improve or maintain health and/or beauty.

Essential oils are highly concentrated liquid distillations of various plant parts including roots, stems, leaves, flowers, fruits, buds, and bark. Each oil has different properties, many of which may be used under the direction of a certified Aromatherapist/Aromatologist for natural healing.

An Aromatherapist/Aromatologist is someone who has trained in the safe and therapeutic use of essential oils. In North America, we practice Holistic Aromatherapy and only ever recommend application of essential oils topically or via inhalation -never ingestion.

Though many people think that aromatherapy is simply the inhalation of various oils, it is in fact much more.

When your Aromatherapist appliesessential oils in the body or recommends application of essential oil blends topically, the chemical constituents of the oils are absorbed quickly through the skin and travel through the bloodstream to organs, muscles, and other tissues in need of support. For example, in the case of muscle pain an effective essential oil blend works similarly to a muscle relaxing lotion. The difference is in the ingredients – a customized essential oil blend diluted in a carrier oil doesn’t contain all the harmful, hard-to-pronounce ingredients that an over-the-counter lotion may contain.

Inhalation of essential oils is the second method of therapeutic use. When your Aromatherapist recommends inhalation, either directly or via diffusion, the chemical constituents of the oils are absorbed through the olfactory system and travel directly to the brain. Here, they work to help encourage regulation of normal bodily functions such as sleep, hormone production, relaxation, etc.

There are many benefits to Aromatherapy. It is a non-invasive, alternative approach to treating skin and health issues.

The approach most Aromatherapists/Aromatologists take is a holistic one – we treat the whole person and take great care to ensure our treatment plans are fitting to each client’s needs and lifestyle. We are trained to also make lifestyle recommendations that will be supportive of the treatments, and we are prepared to make referrals whenever needed.

Perhaps the greatest benefit is the custom therapy created for each client. For example, a skincare client who experiences persistent acne and cannot find an over-the-counter or prescription solution will leave an Aromatherapy session with a customized product that is tailored to his/her specific lifestyle, skin, and body. This often results in a natural solution to skin or health concerns for which no other solution has yet worked for the client.

Finally, for those interested in the beauty aspect of Aromatherapy the art of the practice is in the skilled blending of oils to create beautiful natural scents. Read more below about Custom Perfume Blending!
